Tales from a Northumbrian Allotment

Woe Number One in the Book of Tribulations of An Allotment Gardener:

  • Come rain or shine, snow or gale, flood or drought, success or crop failure, good season or bad - there will be a golden host of dandelions on the allotment.

Woe Number Two in the Book of Tribulations of An Allotment Gardener:

  • The friendly wildlife that you fed all winter will consider that the first and greatest share of anything you grow in the summer will be a continuation of your generosity.

Woe Number Three in the Book of Tribulations of An Allotment Gardener:

  • Every season one crop will always thrive beyond the ability that you have to eat all of it. In your first season this will be something that has been left by the previous plot holder out of the goodness of his or her heart.
